Q. What are Metal Web Joists?
A. Engineered floor joists comprising of a top and bottom flange of TR26 grade kiln timber joined together by a series of metal 'V' shaped webs. This means that a large part of the joist is actually air, saving valuable time to the plumber and electrician, eliminating the need for notching and drilling. In addition to floors, Posi-joists can also be used for flat roofs.
Q. What are Posi-Joists?
A. There are various metal web joists on the market, Posi-Joist is a trade name.
Q. What depths do they come in?
A. Posi-Joists are available in 202mm, 225mm, 253mm, 304mm, 373mm and 421mm.
Q. What spans are achievable with Posi-Joists and do they require internal load-bearing walls?
A. Posi-Joists can span greater distances than traditional joists. For roofs, spans of over 10 metres are readily achievable, however spans for floors over 5.5 metres are more economical with internal load-bearing walls.
Q. Are they just for big spans?
A. Absolutely not. Posi-Joists are equally suited to buildings of all sizes.
Q. Can I trim them to length?
A. Because Posi-Joists are designed and manufactured to fit your building exactly, there's normally no need to. However. they can be supplied with trimmable ends to incorporate on-site tolerances if required.
Q. Can I notch and drill them for routeing pipes and cables?
A. Because of the large spaces within Posi-Joists, pipes and cables can be routed without any need for cutting or drilling.
Q. What about sound transmission and the 'drum effect'?
A. Posi-Joists have suprior sound transmission properties to both traditional joists and I-beams. In practice 'drum effect' is non existent with metal web joists.
Q. But aren't they expensive?
A. Because they are easier to handle, quick to install and will allow easier, quicker routeing of pipes and cables, Posi-Joists can actually save you money.

Q. Can Aspects tell us how to install Posi-Joists?
A. Posi-Joists are all individually marked and come complete with comprehensive instructions to enable quick, easy and trouble-free installation on site.
Q. Are Posi-Joists difficult to handle?
A. No, being lighter, Posi-Joists are much easier to handle on site than traditional timbers or I-beam joist.
Q. Are there any special requirements for storing Posi-Joists on site?
A. Floor packages are delivered fully wrapped to protect against weather and damp. Simply put them on bearers to keep them off the ground.
Q. How soon can you deliver?
A. Lead-time is normally 2 to 3 weeks, but Aspect is well known for 'pulling out the stops' to help customers in an emergency.
